Homework Policy

Policy

Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre endeavours to support children who attend our After School Club as they complete the homework assigned to them from their National School.

Procedure

  1. Homework will begin when the children have eaten and tidied up after lunch.

  2. There will be a time limit set for the completion of homework while the children attend the After School Club. The time limits will follow Department of Education’s timeline for homework. This will depend on the age of the child.

  3. Homework that is required to be made up when a child has been absent from school will be completed after the day’s assigned homework is completed and only if it is within the time frame of the recommended time limit.

  4. Parents may request that homework is not to be completed in the After School Club. Parents are to speak to the Early Years Teachers directly to request this.

  5. Early Years Teachers will assist the children while they are completing homework to the best of their ability. However, individual attention cannot always be accommodated.

  6. Reading homework is to be completed at home with the parents.

  7. In cases where Early Years Teachers feel a child is struggling with parts of homework, Early Years Teachers will communicate this information to the parents.

  8. Early Years Teachers will not sign homework journals upon the completion of children’s homework.

  9. Ultimately, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child’s homework is completed to the best of the child’s ability.
