Student & Volunteer Policy

Policy

Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre believes that a placement in our service is a valuable opportunity where a student or volunteer will learn and experience hands-on the importance of early childhood care and education. Equally we appreciate the energy and enthusiasm new people bring to the environment.

Procedure

  1. Meeting before start date

Each student or volunteer will meet with the Manager before they begin in Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre. This is an opportunity to talk about the needs of the student/volunteer and how the service may be able to accommodate them.

  1. Agreement of role

A description of the role of the student/volunteer will be developed, helping all staff and others understand the expectations of the student/volunteer. This may also be used as a reference when giving support and supervision.

  1. Garda Vetting

Garda vetting is carried out by Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre for all staff, students and volunteers. This is a requirement under the Child Care Act 1991 Regulations 2016. Students under 18 years of age are not subject to Garda vetting.

  1. References

Two verified references from reputable sources are required for all students and volunteers.

  1. Induction

An induction period is provided for all new students/volunteers. Volunteers/students are provided with:

Information about the role of the Childcare Service

Further information about the student’s/volunteer’s role

Information on the role of other students/volunteers and employees

Details of grievance and disciplinary procedures

Details of codes of conduct

Full details of the Policies and Procedures of the childcare service, with a read and sign off sheet to be retained on file.
