Supervision Policy

Policy

Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre is fully committed to ensuring that there is always a designated supervisor at the centre at all times and that the children are always supervised.

Procedure

  1. The Voluntary Management Committee will have hired a Manager to ensure the Policies & Procedures and Staff Handbook are followed at all times.

  2. When the Manager is in the building, he/she is ultimately responsible for the centre.

  3. When the Manager leaves the building, she must inform all Senior Childcare Practitioners in the building. It is at this point that the supervisor verbally appoints the most senior member of staff to be the Deputy Supervisor while the supervisor is out of the building.

  4. The Deputy Supervisor will be responsible for the follow through of all Policies & Procedures and the Staff Handbook.

  5. Upon the return of the Manager, a verbal turnover will be given by the Deputy Supervisor to the returning Manager.

  6. The Manager and Senior Early Years Teachers will ensure that there is the correct adult: child ratio at all times, as set out by the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016.

  7. Staff will inform the other staff when they are leaving the room, i.e. to go on break

  8. It is the responsibility of the Senior Early Years Teacher to ensure that the children are being appropriately supervised.

  9. All Early Years Teachers are responsible for knowing how many children are in the classroom.

  10. Interaction between teachers and children does not negate responsibility for supervising the other children in the room.

  11. Communication between teachers is necessary in order to ensure that the children are all supervised.

  12. No mobile phones are to be on the staff’s person while they are working with the children.

  13. If a staff must be absent from a scheduled shift, they must call the Manager a least one hour before their shift begins.

  14. Staff must speak to the manager when calling out for a shift. Texting or leaving a voice mail is not permitted.

  15. Staff will follow the policy of attendance and punctuality as it is set out in the Staff Handbook.
