Transitioning Between Classrooms Policy
Policy
Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre will make every effort to successfully transition children from the Baby Room to the Toddler room and the Toddler Room to the Pre-school room. Cuan Bhríde Childcare Centre understands that this is a big change for the child and the parent; every consideration will be made to help make the transition as smooth as possible for all concerned.
Procedure:

The Senior Early Years Teacher from originating room will begin discussion with parents about the transition to the next room and any reservations or concerns that they may have.

The Senior Early Years Teacher of the current room will ensure that the parents get a tour of the next room and an introduction to the Early Years Teachers of the new room will be provided.

If required, a meeting will be held with the current Key Person and the parent to discuss the best way to transition their child into the preschool room. If possible, the new Key Person will be present at the meeting. If not possible, the original Key Person will relay information to the new Key Person.

Once the child begins transitioning into the new classroom, communication about the experience will be provided every day.

A date will be chosen for the child to move to the new classroom full time based on how the child has settled in and the availability of space in the new classroom.

Once a child has left the originating room, their place will be taken by the child at the top of the Waiting List.

A child should be potty trained before they transition into the pre-school room.

This policy is used in conjunction with the Admission Policy and the Settling In Policy.
